About Me

I began my career as a dog trainer in a charity that trained assistance dogs to help people with disabilities.

I set up my own business, walking, grooming and training dogs when I moved to Devon. My passion was helping people with dogs with difficult behaviour issues. I noticed that I would spend a lot of time counselling and helping the owner with their issues such as anxiety, which would be contributing to issues with the dog and found the relationship really rewarding. I decided to study for a degree in Psychology part time so I could have my family and continue working. When I finished my degree, I was unable to further my career as it required full time University. So I trained as a counsellor, gaining my Level 4 Integrative Diploma in Counselling. One of the modules of the training was in TA psychotherapy, which i instantly connected with. I really enjoy the greater depth of the therapeutic relationship and the ability to work with the processes both conscious and unconscious that can keep people stuck or struggling in their mental health and relationships. I have been training in relational TA now for 4 years and hope to qualify as a psychotherapist next year.

My passion has always been with horses, and the importance of the relationship with my horses and I have trained in EFT (Equine Facilitated therapy) working with groups of people to help regulate emotional distress. I hope to be able to develop this further in the future. As part of my development in counselling young people I have gained a Level 5 advanced diploma in counselling young people and Adolescents.

I have been working in the NHS as a Psychological Therapist (CYP), specialising in Trauma focused CBT, for children and adolescents who have symptoms of PTSD after experiencing Sexual Assault or from grooming.

I have found my own therapy to be transformational, and although it can be difficult, I have learn so much about my own processes I have been able to let go of things which don't serve me and make changes which have increased my own mental health and well being positively.

I work within the ethical framework and guidelines of the BACP, UKATA, IARTA and UKCP of which I am a member.

My established private practice is based on Dartmoor in a rural location, with access to nature and surrounded by fields and also only 5 minutes from the A38 and Ashburton.
